'Make A Will' Week

You are likely to have heard before about the benefits of an up to date Will – notably, the peace of mind created by knowing how your wishes will be fulfilled in the event of your death. For me, it’s knowing my beloved cocker spaniel “Moray” will have a good home and be looked after financially… oh, and my wife too.

Fees can be a concern to people and deter those from enquiry, but getting a Will drafted professionally that reflects your goals and preferences can be invaluable. The alternative, dying “intestate” – without a valid Will -, leads to the rigid implementation of laws which dictate the manner in which your property and affairs are handled, and subsequently distributed. This can be emotive, time-consuming, and expensive.

Furthermore, the cost of a basic Will is likely to be lower than you anticipate, and charity initiatives allow you to pay your fee(s) to a worthy cause.

St. Lukes‘ 'Make A Will Week’

‘Make a Will Week’ is one such initiative and runs again from 13th to 17th May 2024.

SW Law, alongside a selection of local legal firms, have signed up to the campaign and will draft your basic Wills without charge, enabling you to donate the equivalent sum to St. Lukes Hospice. It thereforere presents a great opportunity to anyone that has yet to draft a Will to do so, and to those that have seen a change in their circumstances (newborn child, inheritance, marriage etc) to amend their current provisions… All whilst helping a key local service.

At any one-time, St. Lukes are caring for 300 people in your local community; you’ll almost certainly know individuals that have benefitted from their wonderful services. You may even know a member of their caring and compassionate team.

But in order to maintain that level of care, St. Lukes are reliant on the generosity (time and financial) of others. Activities such as ‘Make A Will Week’, as well as legacy gifts in Wills, are a key tool in maintaining the current services and facilities.

Will Aid

Note, SW Law are also supporters of the ‘Will Aid’ initiative and helped raise c. £3,500 in 2023 for a variety of good causes –inc. Jeremiah’s Journey, RBL and the Argyle Community Trust. This service will relaunch in 2024.

SW Law are proud to be involved each year and we look forward to receiving your enquiries.
